    AT&T* customers and FirstNet subscribers across Maryland got a big boost in wireless connectivity this year. We’ve added new cell sites across Maryland to enhance the state’s 4G LTE coverage and help give residents and first responders faster, more reliable wireless service. Our investment will help customers get the most out of their mobile devices.

    The new sites include:

    Hagerstown, Washington County, near North Burhans Blvd. and West Irvin Avenue

    East New Market, Dorchester County, near Mount Holly Road and Fox Ridge Road

    Edgewater, Anne Arundel County, near Central Ave and Pike Ridge Road

    Frederick, Frederick County, near Reichs Ford Road and Public Safety Place

    Hanover, Anne Arundel County, near Live! Casino in Arundel Mills 

    Rockville, Montgomery County, near Shady Grove Road and W. Montgomery Avenue

    Frederick, Frederick County, near the intersection of I-270 and I-70

    These new sites are among an estimated 364 network upgrades we made in Maryland in 2019.

    These enhancements also bring Band 14 spectrum to the area. Band 14 is nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet. Its signal covers larger geographic areas with less infrastructure to better support rural communities, and it can better penetrate buildings and walls in more urban areas as compared to higher-MHz spectrum. When not in use by FirstNet subscribers, AT&T customers can enjoy Band 14’s added coverage and capacity.

    FirstNet is being built with AT&T in a public private partnership with the First Responder Network Authority. It’s designed to help first responders in Maryland and across the country connect to the critical information they need – when they need it – so they can keep themselves and the communities they serve safer.

    Comcast Business today announced that it is providing Gig-speed connectivity to NetLevel Inc., the innovator of the first out-of-home entertainment network, to propel the digital transformation of movie theaters nationwide.

    As the entertainment industry continues to evolve, movie theater operators are seeking new ways to attract customers and generate revenue – particularly during off-peak times, including weeknights. NetLevel is helping movie theaters embrace digital streaming by turning brick and mortar locations into continuous, seven-day-a-week digital entertainment destinations hosting eSports events, simulcasting concerts and local sporting events, streaming sports match-ups and more.

    To enable movie theaters to identify and create new business models centered around streaming digital content, NetLevel required a secure, high-speed network to connect its San Jose network equipment center with 65 auditoriums nationwide. NetLevel selected Comcast Business to design and deploy a nationwide Ethernet virtual private line network (EVPL), allowing the out-of-home entertainment network to stream data-rich content from eSports to live concerts.

    All 65 partner movie theater locations have been furnished with Comcast Business’ scalable Gig-speed internet access, allowing each to connect to the NetLevel San Jose core network. Now NetLevel can digitally deliver entertainment content to these theaters at up to 10 Gigabits/second, providing its customers the connectivity they need to seize new revenue opportunities.

    With Comcast Business’ national network infrastructure in place, NetLevel can dynamically scale operations to meet growing entertainment digital streaming demand. NetLevel intends to expand from 65 theaters to approximately 600 U.S. movie theaters by summer 2020, with plans to rollout to over 6,000 locations by 2022.

    “We launched NetLevel two years ago with a vision for disrupting the community entertainment industry and propelling digital transformation at movie theaters across the country,” said Ray Bell, NetLevel CEO. “With Comcast Business, we have the provider and Gig-speed connectivity we need to help turn that vision into a reality.”

    As NetLevel’s out-of-home entertainment network grows, Comcast Business is poised to install coaxial and fiber connectivity at additional NetLevel movie theater locations.

    Companies work together to integrate Comcast’s Xfinity Stream into NuEyes smart assistive technology

    Comcast today announced a partnership with wearable technology startup NuEyes to bring the Xfinity Stream entertainment viewing experience to visually impaired customers through NuEyes virtual reality technology. The Xfinity Stream app, which allows customers to watch live TV and On Demand content on any device, is now available on the NuEyes e2 smartglasses and VR magnifying device that enhances the usable vision of a person who is visually impaired.  Xfinity Stream is pre-installed on NuEyes e2, allowing users with visual disabilities to see TV shows, news, movies, live sports, and more, independently.

    Founded by a veteran, NuEyes’ mission is to give millions of people across the U.S. who are visually impaired the independence they may have lost due to conditions like macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinitis pigmentosa. The lightweight design of the NuEyes e2, paired with handsfree and wireless functionality, gives people with low vision the ability to participate in their everyday lives in ways that were once difficult or impossible, like clearly seeing loved ones’ faces, reading, cooking and enjoying television.

    James Baldwin, an 18-year Army Veteran, began losing his vision three years ago due to an injury sustained during his service. He lives with a prosthetic left eye and limited vision in his right eye. James was one of the first customers to experience Xfinity Stream on NuEyes e2, allowing him to watch TV again for the first time in years.
